In the Office
Everything starts in the office. Our historic building in downtown Ashland is the hub for our administration, marketing, production, and senior management. With a beautiful work environment and the right tools, people work better. Walking distance from dining and convenience stores and seconds away from the highway our office is a great place to work.

The field is the domain of our construction team, conquering all of central Virginia. Specifically our field crew specializes in decks and screen porches. Our field crew is made up of skilled individuals who want to work outside or avoid spending their day at a desk. Building at Smallwood Renovations gives you the chance to stay moving while practicing carpentry, a trade we value as an old-world discipline.

In-Home Sales
We conduct all of our sales in person, making real connections with our customers. This personal sales process is focused on communication and customization. Our sales team is made up of dynamic personalities who spend time in the office for trainings and meetings and spend the rest of their time in customers' homes or with flexible working locations for paperwork and phone calls.

Sales Representative
Previous sales experience preferred, but not required
We’re growing our sales team. If you’re interested in a commission based, fast-paced in-home sales position, give us a call and have a resume ready to send over. This full-time position works within a small team with great leadership that provides frequent trainings, and all of the technology and equipment to make you an effective seller.

Pay Expectations
Commission based position. Successful sales people at Smallwood Renovations should make upwards of 100k annually.

Carpenter’s Apprentice
No experience required
Learn from experienced carpenters about the basics of construction, and be a part of building decks and porches around the greater Richmond Area. This full-time position is entry-level and perfect for a candidate who is looking to move their career outside and learn in a collaborative environment.
Our Ideal Candidate
- Desires to learn about best-practice construction
- Is receptive to feedback and training
- Has a mature sense of job safety
- Asks questions and seeks better understanding of our processes
Pay Expectations
$15-18/Hourly
Lead Carpenter
5+ years of experience
We’re looking for a Lead Carpenter to be a member of a 3-4 person construction crew who will work closely with the construction manager to keep the job running as efficiently as possible, while creating a 5-star experience for our homeowners. We are looking to fill this position with someone who is loyal, has a positive attitude, takes great pride in their work, has excellent attention to detail, and does high-quality standard work.

Pay Expectations
Starting around $27.00/Hourly, this position’s pay is dependent on skills, qualifications and experience.
