Is financing an option?
Yes. With approved credit, we work with several banks to provide various financing options for all projects.
Do I need to be at the property for the estimate?
Yes. In order for us to give an accurate estimate, we will meet you at the property to fully review and discuss different design potentials and ideas for new construction, material and color preferences/availability, and answer questions related to existing structures that may arise!
What happens at an estimate?
After getting in touch with you following an estimate request or a call to our office at (804) 359-2997, we will set up a day and time to meet with homeowner(s) for a FREE estimate at the property. Our qualified team comes prepared with material samples, and photos of jobs we’ve done in the past. During the estimate, measurements will be taken of the potential project as we work with you to bring your visions for your home to life.
When can you start my project?
Upon meeting you at your free estimate, we can provide much more insight into when we could begin your project. With an ever-evolving schedule, our hard-working staff will ensure that you’re pleased with the start date, but there is no standard time frame and varies by project.
I need to add railing to an existing deck, would you do that?
Yes. We can add or replace railing to any existing structure!
Do you build patios?
No. At this time we do not service or build patios. However, we can use a pre-existing patio as the foundation for a screen porch, or build a deck over top of an existing patio!
Can you REPAIR my deck?
Maybe – although we do not give estimates on just the repair of a few boards, we do specialize in resurfacing decks (replacing the walking boards) with both Madison Wood pressure treated lumber, or Trex composite decking, given that your base structure is solid but the top boards are warped or unattractive!
What about siding repair?
Yes. However, our standard is a minimum one full wall of the home! If you have any questions regarding this, feel free to give us a call.
What will you do for screen porches?
Whether you’re looking to rescreen an existing screen porch, add a roof over a deck, or build a screen porch from the ground up, we’d love to get involved.
Who will come out to do the work?
Smallwood employs our very own construction team who altogether have a combined experience of 100+ years of home renovations knowledge and experience.
How do I know if my roof needs replacing?
Active leaks or stains which are most often seen in the attic where they first begin, growth of moss, curled or cracked shingles are all warning signs that you are in need of a replacement. Our team is GAF certified and well versed in all the latest techniques to installing a roof that will ensure best protection from wind, rain, and other diverse weather conditions that Virginia brings.
What does the roof replacement process look like?
We will go above and beyond to not only just install a new roof but also replace any rotted roof decking underneath the shingles that will prevent future leaks from happening. Even with a brand-new roof, if the underneath is damaged, the new roof will not suffice so we want to make sure to address the issue holistically, and completely.
What is composite (Trex) decking made from?
Composite, or maintenance free decking material is made of plastic film and wood fibers that won’t rot or splinter, require no painting or staining, and need only the occasional power wash.
Will your replacement windows lower my energy bill?
Guaranteed. ProVia windows are well known in the industry for their consistent protection against drafts and harmful UV rays. Every ProVia window we offer meets the EPA’s Energy Star standards across the country and uses the highest quality material- ensuring that your home loses less heat in the winter and defends more effectively against heat in the warmer months.
